Coaches create change. I think we see that as one of our primary roles in life. One of our goals with this blog is to share some of the “change agent” wisdom we find in other blogs about coaching.
A New Coach! Mary McLaughlin has recently shifted part of her focus from direct sales to coaching. I look forward to watching her develop as a top coach in direct sales. As a seasoned seller and a relatively new coach, Mary brings the wisdom of experience and the energy of a rookie together. Check out her blog. An entry in May about her Top Ten Lessons illustrates this well.
Leadership 2.0! Whenever I find myself coaching a leader in direct sales, there is always a bit of a struggle at the beginning as my client tries to define “leadership” as part of her process of goal setting. Michael Hyatt, CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishing, writes about the shifts in Leadership style when he blogs about Leadership 2.0. His list is a great place to start.
Wish I had said that! I recently started reading a blog called A Simple Marriage (couldn’t we all use some help?). In a recent passage on creating a more passionate relationship, they wrote, “Let the best in you run your life. If you’re like most people, you have a scared, angry, vindictive, or lazy side that limits the quality of your relationship. You don’t have to let that side of you run your life. Instead, live from the resilient side of you. Remind yourself of what is admirable, competent and good about yourself. . .” Wouldn’t that make a great daily reminder?
Brain Rules! I see coaching as an art. A least I think what I do is better characterized as art rather than science. Recent advances in brain science have put some great parameters on what seems to be happening in current medical science. John Medina’s recent book on Brain Rules is fascinating reading. His blog covers everything from understanding MRI’s to sleep and multitasking. By the way, Garr Reynolds, who created Presentation Zen, loves it as well. Garr created a PowerPoint presentation about brain rules.
Change or growth?
Isn’t that a great core question for coaches? While we tend to treat the two words as synonyms, Ali Hale explored the difference recently at The Change Blog. It’s a great opportunity to refine your thinking.
