Editor’s Note: As part of the graduation requirements for the DSWA Coach Excellence Certification program, we ask the student to share their reflections on the program and how they were changed by the experience. This is what Denise Carey, the Recruiting Manager for Temptations Parties, has to say about the experience.
I can honestly say I am a changed person after finishing the Coach Excellence Program. My world view—of both myself and others–has changed. My personal confidence has soared. You see, if I accept others as being whole and complete, as taught in the course, I must do the same for myself. My inner critic is a lot quieter now.
Another major change for me occurred when I started applying the DiSC method as I coach others. Before the course, when I worked with a strong D, I would have beaten myself up mercilessly for not being as good as they were! Now, I just accept the differences in our styles of dealing with our “different” realities and all is well! I simply allow others to be who they are and suddenly life is easier for me, too. I do not have to fix anything, in them or me. This is one of my major changes as a direct result of the Coach Excellence Certification Program.
Professionally, as a coach, I am able to see the unlimited possibilities in my team members. I understand that every issue is an opening for self growth. The program has made me aware that all I need to do is to open this world of possibilities up for them and they have the innate wisdom to do the rest themselves. I face each call with excitement rather than with the dread of thinking everything was a problem—a problem that I needed to solve.
Everyone, whether they intend to be a coach or not, can and will benefit from this program. The depth of knowledge and personal growth I have seen is priceless. My deepest thanks go to Dana, Neil, Mark and the DSWA for this life altering experience.
