Monday Magic, November 2

Monday Magic ReflectionWelcome to this edition of Monday Magic.  Our theme this week is on personal goal setting.  Much of what we want can be accomplished by going through a process of self coaching—just figuring out the why’s, the what’s, and the path forward.  Today’s version of magic will highlight resources and thought streams to help you make this week memorable.

On behalf of the authors of the DSWA Coaching Center, we urge you to subscribe to the blogs that you find worthwhile.  If you are a blog neophyte, the process isn’t painful.  Most blogs, like this one, offer you an opportunity to subscribe by email.  If you are just starting, choose that option and when something new is posted, it will show up in your inbox.  If the article isn’t working, hit delete and wait for the next one.  Not every post will touch your head, heart or hands, but none ever will without your initial click.

Twelve mistakes to avoid.  If you don’t have much time, you should become a regular subscriber to the Change Your Life in 5 Minutes or Less Blog.  Recently they had an entry on avoiding twelve mistakes in goal setting.  While most of them are the “Duh, I knew that” type of reminders, seeing them all put in one list is very useful. If you like quick videos, this is a definite must.

Shortcut!  Don’t we all like shortcuts?  Actually, Ali Hale isn’t producing shortcuts in the Change Blog.  She is giving us three clear foci to help keep from blundering around on your way to positive self change. You can read about it in her blog on Three Shortcuts to Faster, Easier Change.

Don’t Overdo It.  Usually when I work with coaching clients, we embark on a mission to discover strength and how to use it effectively.  Gill Corkindale reminds us that our flaws are often the flip side of a strength and, in addition, a strength overdone becomes a flaw.  The solution is more self awareness.  You can read her insights in her Harvard blog.

Find Your Hedgehog.  If you haven’t really looked for your hedgehog, you should.  Find the intersection of your strengths, passions, and earning capacity.  The Coach Toolkit has a five part series.  Part 1 explains the model and gets you started.

We’d love to hear your reactions to these brief articles.  Pick one, read it, and offer a comment.  What have you been reading lately?  Share it in a comment or even a guest post.  Get Free Updates to the DSWA Coaching Center by Email here or via an RSS reader in the top right sidebar.  We would love to have you on board.
