Opening a New Chapter

Doreen Marino 200x300 Opening a New ChapterLast year, I took a series of courses and at the completion of those courses, I stood in front of the room and announced that what was next for me was to be a Life Coach.  It had been a process of self-discovery and I knew that was my next path.  At the end of the evening, one of the women in the course asked me if I would like to have lunch with her one day.  Of course I said, “Yes,” and we set up our date.  At lunch she said, “So you want to be a life coach.”  I told her that my husband and I had committed to be in 100% integrity with our finances, so we agreed we would not take on any additional expenses until we had attained our goal.  I told her that I was not going to get a formal education but would certainly work on learning everything I could about coaching.  I had worked with people through leading personal transformation workshops in the past, and had learned much about coaching from that, so I would continue from there.  She said to me, “Well, I have a proposition for you.  If you would be my life coach, I will pay for your education.”  Oh my gosh!  I didn’t know what to say, except “Thank you!”  She said she had been looking for a life coach, and she knew I was it.

During these courses, I had taken on as a project the formation of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of DSWA at the request of a friend and, in the process, learned what a great organization the DSWA is.  As I began to look at various opportunities for a life coaching education, I inquired about the DSWA Coach Excellence Program.  I liked what I saw.  This was mid-January, 2009.  The first Coach Excellence Course was beginning in about a week.  I always felt that I had been guided to that program, and was thrilled to be a part of the inaugural group.  (I also had a credit on Southwest Airlines for the exact amount of the airfare from California to Texas, which allowed me to complete the first phase of the program.)  In a nutshell, I was able to do it all and stay in integrity with my finances!

That was ten months ago.  I have just passed my last proficiency exam, and will now graduate.  I currently work with three coaching clients and this week begins session #1 of a workshop I am giving for a group for women who want to learn more about visioning and goal setting.  For myself, I see my future as a very busy life coach, trainer and teacher, working with and contributing to women everywhere who want to realize their dreams.  It is my hope that someday I will work with the DSWA Coach Excellence organization.  I know that anything is possible if we believe it and allow it into our lives.

I am so grateful to Dana, Neil and Mark, who encouraged and empowered me during this past year to achieve another exciting chapter in my life.  The contributions they have made to my life are many.  It has truly been a privilege to work with such knowledgeable coaches and teachers, who show such grace in their work and their lives.  I have done a few extraordinary things in my life, and I believe this will be another one.

Thank you to the Direct Selling Women’s Alliance for all you offer to women everywhere.
